Amberd is one of the most impressive medieval fortresses in Armenia, located at an altitude of 2,300 meters above sea level on the slope of Mount Aragats. This unique complex, dating from the 9th to 13th centuries, includes a fortress, the Vahramashen Church (1026), baths, and a system of defensive walls. It offers stunning views of the mountains and the Amberd River gorge. In the spring, the fortress is immersed in greenery and flowers, and in winter, it is covered in a fairytale blanket of snow.
2. Saghmosavank Monastery – the Monastery of Psalms
Saghmosavank (13th century) is located on the edge of the picturesque gorge of the Kasakh River. In ancient times, monks copied manuscripts and created books here, making the monastery one of the centers of Armenian literature. The name "Saghmosavank" itself translates as "monastery of psalms." Majestic architecture, ancient khachkars, and a breathtaking view of the gorge make this place a must-see.
3. The "Aparan Alphabet" Monument – a symbol of Armenian writing
On the outskirts of the town of Aparan, there is a monument dedicated to the Armenian alphabet, created in 405 by Saint Mesrop Mashtots. Enormous stone letters, each symbolizing one of the 39 letters of the Armenian alphabet, are set among picturesque hills.
